With National Signing Day less than a month away, things are growing much more clear for the Michigan Wolverines. The Wolverines presumably have 3 spots left for team 134 with an additional member coming by way of a preferred walk on.. (I’ll touch on that a bit later). Here is a little tad on each of the four young men who are most likely destined and contending for those three scholarships.
Cameron Hunt, OL
Hunt is an OG/OL from Corona, California and recently took part in the 2013 UA All-American Game. Throughout most of the game you were able to see a combination of He, Dave Dawson, LTT, or Pat Kugler absolutely dominating the opposing defense. Even with the recent addition of Dan Samuelsson, I do see some sort of possibility of Hunt still joining the class. Per Twitter, Hunt loved his visit to Michigan, but quickly travelled to O$U for his official. To me that is strange… Figuring the Michigan visit ended rather quickly. The possibility is there as i mentioned, especially with the fact that Hoke told Hunt he would like to take a 7th OL. Keep an eye on the situation with Hunt as NSD draws closer. I could see his decision not coming forth til NSD but it most definitely is a situation to keep an eye on.
Dawson is the HS teammate of current Team 134 commit Mike McCray at Trotwood HS in Ohio. For the longest time Dawson has been a commit to the Fighting Illini, but since Leon McQuay made his verbal for U$C, a major interest between Dawson and Hoke has been opened up again. Dawson is a dynamic player coming from a traditional Ohio football powerhouse. Reon is definitely someone to keep your eye on as he chooses between Michigan and Illinois this week. He has the ability to be an extraordinary player with all of his raw talent and has reitterated again and again that prime education will play a key role. IMO at this point in time, don’t be surprised if Reon goes blue!
McGrath is the latter mentioned recruit who I referred to as the possible walk on. Hoke has offered him a preferred walk on spot with the oppurtunity to gain a scholarship after Gibbons graduates. For the longest time I have shared dialogue with JJ and he has always had a devout interest in Michigan. The kid can kick a ball 55+ with ease and his career long is 53. On his twitter (@jjmcgrath13 ) you’ll even notice his twitcon is a picture taken with Coach Hoke at a recent banquet. We should know more about JJ and his recruitment Friday as his final 3 schools are down to So. Miss, LSU, and Michigan. I really would not be surprised to see JJ take the walk on spot in Ann Arbor and with that in mind, after Gibbons graduates you could see JJ challenge for not only a scholarship, but also a starting spot.
And Finally, as many of you know…
Look as almost any Michigan fan knows, Derrick Green is the number one RB in the country. We all have known about him for many months now and his decision is nearing. ATM his decision date is set for January 26th at 4 p.m. Michigan is in the lead as DG27 ( my nickname for Green) mentioned during the start of the Army All American Game. DG is a HELL of a talent. By far and easily the top and most coveted RB recruit in recent memory. At 6 ft, 220 lbs, Derrick Green has size, speed, strength and agility, basically a man among boys in HS ball. Derrick has the ability to break the big run and also run between the tackles for the ever so crucial chain moving 3 yard gains. ATM I believe Derrick Green will be a Michigan Wolverine the night of January 26th. If he does come to AA look for him to get early playing time and make a very large impact in the very near future. With the loss of Fitz, DG could step in and be that every down back Al Borges has been looking for.
