Quick Analysis Series: Taco Charlton

(video via ScoutingOhio.com)

Taco Charlton is one of the best defensive players on the Michigan Wolverines commit list. He possesses rare speed combined with strength that makes the matchup for any offensive lineman a nightmare. After watching a lot of highlight tape on Charlton, he reminds me mostly of William Gholston of MSU, or the Seattle Seahawks Bruce Irvin prototype. Very quick off the ball, and a fantastic block shedder, makes blocking him an extremely difficult task. His pursuit is also a big plus, whenever a QB gets flushed outside, or a running back breaks loose, Charlton will be somewhere tailing that player; Hardly ever gives up on a play, and this will be huge for UM. With a few players leaving and Chris Wormley nursing an ACL injury, Charlton has a good chance of seeing the field early in his tenure at Michigan, if his work ethic and his play don’t allow him to see playing time first. Scouts raved about the 6′-6 DE from Ohio while he was at camps, and majority are saying this is a huge get for the Wolverines, and deservingly so, he did nothing but impress while working with the Nation’s top recruits. David Dawson, Logan Tuley-Tillman, Lovell Peterson among others attended the camps, and Taco shined at the camp.

His technique needs a bit of work, and that will develop over time, he still is a bit of a raw talent, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. If coaches can develop Charlton properly, he could become one of the best player in this class, if not the best. He has the potential to be handful as a pass rusher, and if he uses all the advice and knowledge he will be getting from the UM staff, Charlton can become an absolute stud for the Maize and Blue.

Charlton possesses enough of pure football player in him to make a significant impact in his Freshman year in Ann Arbor, as mentioned before. You can watch the highlights of Charlton above this post, and I suggest you do, they are fun to watch and will get you excited for the future of Michigan football. Also, if you are a Michigan fan, be excited for the Ohio product, Taco Charlton will eventually be a household name in AA, it’s only a matter of time before you hear the name.
