Scouting Report: According to Scout.com, he is the 13th ranked center in the country. At 6-8, 225 lbs, Donnal will bring some much needed size and depth to the Wolverine frontcourt.
Mark Donnal is a guy who has improved his game every year. He is an above the rim player with good hands and exceptional footwork. Donnal has developed a nice face up jumper from outside the paint that defenses have to respect. He is a very good rebounder and knows how to use his size inside the paint.
Something Donnal needs to work on is his low post offense. He is very much a face up player with little to no moves down low. It is pretty much a given that when he catches the ball in the post, he’s going to try a layup or dunk. He could benefit greatly from developing a jump hook or using his footwork down low to create his offense. Defensively, it’s hard for players to score with his size, but he is not much of a shot blocker.
Overall, Mark Donnal is a prospect who has improved every single year and I expect his time at Michigan to be no different. Early on, I see him being a guy that provides depth off the bench, but by the end of his career he should crack the starting lineup. Add him to a mix of big men like Jordan Morgan, Mitch McGary, Jon Horford, and a solid recruiting class for next year with Derrick Walton and Zak Irvin and I think you have a nucleus of guys that will still be a Big Ten contender next year.
