Scouting Report: Andrew Brown is one of elite interior pass rushers in the 2014 football recruiting class. Brown is a force to be reckoned with along the defensive line. He is the 22nd ranked player in the nation according to Scout.com and has been named to the 2014 ESPN Watch List.
Many services have him listed as a defensive end, but he moved to tackle his Junior season, which is a much more ideal fit for him with his size and he still has room to grow. What impresses me most about Brown is his quickness off of the line. He’s very good at staying disciplined and is as explosive a pass rusher off of the snap as I’ve seen in this class.
He absolutely wreaks havoc on the interior of the line. He is able to gain leverage by keeping his pad level low and uses his strength to do the rest of the work. Brown is also good at handling double teams as well. He changes directions very smoothy for a bigger lineman as well. His club-and-rip moves allow him to beat offensive lineman after the snap and he is consistently in the backfield.
Where he needs to improve is separating from his blockers. He sometimes lets offensive lineman gain more ground than they should by bringing his arms in and not staying fully extended. He needs to work on his shooting his hands to become that much more explosive. Moving to the interior of the defensive line is also fairly new to Brown, as he played end until his junior year, so he will have to become better at reading blocking schemes.
Where Michigan stands: Andrew Brown has over 30 scholarship offers to mull over before National Signing Day 2014, and he will take his time to narrow it down little by little. Michigan, by all accounts, is very high on his list. Expect them to be in it until the very end, and hopefully he chooses to play in Ann Arbor!
