Basketball: 2013-14’s Non-Conference Schedule Will Provide Challenges

The 2013-2014 schedule for the basketball season is starting to take shape, and it is going to be a stiff test for a young Wolverine team, headlined by returning players such as Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary and incoming recruits Zak Irvin, Mark Donnal, and Derrick Walton.

The non-conference slate is due to be a tough measuring stick, opening the season in the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, which will be a three-day tournament including 12 games. Among the teams scheduled to appear in this tournament are Auburn, Charlotte, Florida State, Georgetown, Kansas State, Long Beach State, and VCU.

Arizona will be making an appearance at Crisler Center as well. They will also hit the road to face Iowa State and have a match-up with Stanford in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. Factor in the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge, which will likely take place on the road.

John Beilein’s team has quite the challenge when it comes to their non-conference games, and the young guys will be thrown into the fire early, which is an exciting and intriguing way to being next season and usher in the post-Trey Burke era. They should again compete for the Big Ten Championship, but we’ll all know what type of team we have before conference play even begins.
