Sound Mind Sound Body: Day 2 Recap

Hey guys, earlier today Nick and myself were able to get out to Southfield High School to catch the action at SMSB.  Below is a few key notes of prospects who caught our eye and a quick look ahead to tomorrow’s Day 3 action..

-Spoke with Lawrence Marshall, he said that at this point he isn’t quite sure what is going on with the Malik McDowell transfer situation but in the end hopes that indeed he does join him at Southfield High this fall.

  • Lawrence also mentioned that his top target is Malik.  Said that nearly every other member of Team 135 is locked onto Hand and maintains day to day contact whether it be through texting or Twitter.
  • Lawrence said that if Hand and Malik both end up Wolverines, they would form one of the best defensive lines ever. Gotta like the confidence Lawrence has and the fact that he could even mention that shows promise for Wolverine fans.  IMO Malik really likes Michigan and I would be shocked if he ended up anywhere else but Michigan.

-2016 CB Lavert Hill out of Cass Tech could very well end up being the next big gem out of the red hot Michigan pipeline.  All day he showed a stellar combination of hands and ability to go up and get the ball at the highest point.  He could end up being a 5* prospect by the time he is a senior.

-Speaking of Cass Tech, 2014 Gary Hosey really stood out to me.  Has bonafide D1 size, and is a beast.  Multi dimensional player who can play both sides of the ball.

-One more Cass Tech note,  while Jayru Campbell was there nearly every MSU coach spoke with him, in the end I really don’t see him ending up at Michigan but as time goes on you can definitely keep your eye on him.

-2015 WR Ray Buford was one of the top WR performers while picking up a Toledo offer.  We spoke with Ray and an interview should be up this week.  Really likes Michigan early on and could very well end up with a Michigan offer with a big Jr. year.

-2015 Oak Park talent John Kelly, really stood out all day.  He showed great leadership all day instructing the younger groups.  Great speed with solid hands.  Could very well be a key piece of Team 136.

-2015 DE Jashon Cornell should be a 5* talent.  Many view him as an ND lean at this point but definitely a long way to go.  Dominated 1v1 and has a plethora of raw talent.

-Erick Smith out of Glenville stuck out, even greater than Marshon Lattimore.  He still says that Michigan is in it, but in the end I see him a Buckeye.

-2015 Brian Cole should end up at CB in college and had several pass breakups in one on ones.  Real deal, although a relative unknown.  Steve Wiltfong discovered that he will be at Michigan and Michigan State next week, with a visit to Tennessee in the very near future.

-Jacques Patrick loved his Michigan visit.  Says he should be back up for a game this fall.  Interview also coming this week.

-2016 RB Matt Falcon will indeed IMO end up the number one RB for the state of Michigan in his class.  Lots of speed and excellent vision.

-Drue Tranquill was a big standout to many today. The 2014 S picked up 3 offers today, and Michigan secondary coach, Curt Mallory, had an eye on him all day.

-2016 WR Austin Mack is the real deal.  Should be a top 5 WR for his class and was easily the top WR at the class from his performance in drills.  Expect Michigan to offer.

-And Finally, Tyler Woodley, 2015 S from GA was a standout all day.  Has long favored Michigan and he could very well earn an offer.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up a Wolverine.

Tomorrow…

We look to speak with Mack, Falcon just to name a few.  Tyrone Wheatley Jr. will be there so it will be nice to get to know him.

Expect interviews from this weekend up during the week, and stay tuned via Twitter for live camp updates!

GO BLUE!

  1. I can definitely imagine the MSU coaches pitch to Jayru, “they haven’t even offered you yet! but we have!”
